Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park
This historic lighthouse is located at 44701 Lighthouse Rd. in Piney point. At this location you can climb the oldest lighthouse on the Potomac and watch historic boats and Maritime history in the museum. You can learn about the U1105 historic shipwreck dive preserve and take a stroll down the beach or enjoy a paddle in a kayak. This is also home to a 6-acre park and one of the most beautiful spots to enjoy the outdoors in St. Mary’s County.
Saint George Island
This is a small island just off the shores of Piney Point that is very quiet and a great relaxed spot to hang out in the famous waters of South Maryland. It is an amazing place to disconnect from the rest of the world around you and enjoy nature. You can charter a boat from here or just meander around and enjoy this tiny island.
Dennis Point Marina
Dennis Point is located in the neighboring town of Drayden. This marina is a popular stopping point for those boating along the Patuxent and the Potomac. Dennis Point is located on the Potomac and known for its great friendly staff. People love to stop in and enjoy the outdoor space and the campgrounds. Every year it is the most amazing spot to enjoy Fourth of July fireworks. Dennis Point also offers a small local restaurant.
Saint Mary’s City
Saint Mary’s City just outside of Piney Point is a popular spot to take in all of the rich history that Maryland holds. Some call Saint Mary’s City, Historic Saint Mary’s City. It is a museum of living history and archaeology at the site of the state of Maryland’s first capital. Living history exhibits are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. It is one of the most fascinating and interesting activities to do in South Maryland.
