A Bit of North Beach History
History for the town of North Beach dates back all the way to 1900 when it was originally platted. The town was formally incorporated in 1910 and established as strictly residential. There were ads in local newspapers stating that North Beach was Washington’s most popular saltwater resort.
And its earliest days visitors reached North Beach most often by steamboat, railroad, trolley car, and the occasional automobile. For over 100 years North Beach has been a center of resort-like activity for those who live here and love to visit.

The Beach
The most notable of activities in the town of North Beach is of course the beach itself. North Beach is located on a peninsula nestled between the bay on the east in the Patuxent River on the west. North Beach itself is home to soaring limestone cliffs known as the Calvert Cliffs that are iconic of the western shore. The seven blocks of soft sand beaches are a major draw to the town.
Fishing
Fishing is a huge activity for residents of North Beach. This area of southern Maryland has some of the best fishing spots. Chesapeake is an estuary where freshwater meets ocean saltwater and is known for the best catches of flounder and striper, called rockfish by locals.

Local festivals
Seafest is a highly popular local festival that takes place in August every year in North Beach. This is an arts and crafts festival that takes up four blocks of the downtown area. Festival goers enjoy live music, fair food, craft demonstrations, and tons more. The town pier is set up for one of the largest crab feasts most people have ever seen.
Downtown North Beach
The downtown area of North Beach is within walking distance of the famous North Beach pier. You can find several amazing small boutique shops including antique shops, fine arts galleries, novelty shops, gift shops, and a fresh food market. The downtown area also offers several amazing great local restaurants that serve up the freshest seafood, amazing homemade burgers, ice cream, sandwiches, and there are some formal dining venues with stunning views.
Schools in North Beach
The public schools that serve the youngest residents living in North Beach Maryland are all part of the Calvert County public school district. Calvert county public school district is one of the best and most revered school districts in the state of Maryland. Several young families that are seeking to settle into the Washington DC metro area prefer to live within the boundaries of Calvert County to benefit from the education system. Some of the specific schools serving North Beach include windy Hill Elementary school, Windy Hill middle school, and Northern high school.
