There are several fun festivals going on throughout Southern Maryland all year long. Here are some of the most popular and upcoming festivals in southern Maryland.

Southern Maryland Fishing and Outdoor Adventure Fair

This fun local festival will take place at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown on March 19 and 20th from 8 AM to 3 PM. There will be plenty of fishing and outdoor adventure vendors on-site featuring great fishing products like rods and reels, lures, crafts, paintings, all types of outdoor sporting gear, tackle, and more.

Hone up on your fishing expertise by listening to expert fishermen talk about the best southern Maryland fishing practices. This year Lenny Rudow the editor of Fish Talk will be speaking about saltwater fishing on Saturday at 9 AM. Eric Packard from Fish Talk will be featuring freshwater fishing on Saturday at 10 AM.

Those interested in boating around Maryland can take a Maryland boater safety course. The class starts Saturday at 9 AM and exams and certifications will be Sunday at 9 AM. This class is put on by the USPS Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron.

A very fun and popular event is the kids’ casting contest with door prizes and a 50-50 drawing. Admission to the fishing and outdoor adventure fair is five dollars cash at the entrance to the fairgrounds. All kids age 12 and under are free.

Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department Annual Spring Dinner

This will be the 61st Annual Volunteer Fire Department Spring Dinner on Saturday, March 22 from 1 to 5. Tickets are $28 per dinner and this year are carry out only. The menu includes stuffed ham, fried oysters, parsley potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, beets, chicken salad, and roll. Dinner will be served at the fire department on 3 Notch Road in Hollywood.

Maryland Day at Historic Saint Mary’s City

This is a free event celebrating the anniversary of the state of Maryland in St. Mary’s County which is the official birthplace of the state. Festivities go from 10 AM to 4 PM in Historic Saint Mary’s City which was the first capital in the state. There will be speeches, a ceremony, and pageantry. This is a fun way to learn about Maryland’s roots and the earliest settlers responsible for forming Maryland.

Southern Maryland Celtic Festival

Southern Maryland Celtic Festival

A very popular festival in southern Maryland takes place on the last Saturday of April every year. This year the Celtic Festival will be on April 23 from 10 AM to 6 PM rain or shine at the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum.

Come enjoy all things tied to the Celtic culture and history from craft and dance demonstrations to harp and Scottish fiddling performances, as well as fun storytelling and historical displays. And of course, there will be plenty of amazing food available for your enjoyment. You can even pick up a few Celtic marketplace souvenirs and gifts. Tickets are $20 for adults in advance and $25 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free with the purchase of any adult ticket.

Southern Maryland Food Truck Festival

This is a fun event for hungry Maryland residents and visitors alike. This year the festival will be on June 5th and 6th at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata. Come and enjoy the region’s best food trucks, local breweries, and wineries, live entertainment, arts, and craft vendors, fireworks, lawn games, and a Kid Zone that includes a petting zoo.
